How to Program a LiftMaster Garage Door Remote on the South Shore (Near Braintree, MA)
If you live near Braintree, MA (or anywhere on the South Shore) and your LiftMaster remote stopped working, you bought a new remote, or you moved into a new home, programming it is usually quick. This guide shows you the most common method using the opener’s “Learn” button—plus troubleshooting tips if it doesn’t pair on the first try.
Local note: If the remote won’t program, the issue is often the opener, safety sensors, wall button, or battery—not the remote itself. We can diagnose it fast.

What You’ll Need
- Your LiftMaster remote (new or existing)
- Access to your garage door opener motor unit
- A sturdy step ladder (if the opener is ceiling-mounted)
- A fresh battery (recommended if the remote is inconsistent)
How to Program a LiftMaster Garage Door Remote
This is the most common programming method for LiftMaster openers used across the South Shore and Braintree, MA area homes:
- Locate the “Learn” button on the garage door opener motor head (it’s usually near the antenna wire or next to the control panel on the motor unit).
- Press and release the Learn button. You should see an indicator light turn on or begin blinking.
- Press and hold the button on your remote you want to use for the door. Release it once the opener light blinks (or you hear a click), which confirms it paired.
- Test the remote from a safe distance to confirm the door opens and closes properly.
Local Pro Tip
If you’re programming more than one remote, repeat the steps for each remote—one at a time. If the opener’s light times out quickly, press the Learn button again and immediately press your remote button.
If Your LiftMaster Remote Won’t Program (Quick Troubleshooting)
1) Weak Battery
If the remote is intermittent, replace the battery first. Follow our guide: change LiftMaster remote battery.
2) Wrong Button / Short Timing Window
Some openers have a short pairing window after pressing Learn. Try again and press the remote button immediately.
3) Opener or Sensor Issue
If the remote pairs but the door won’t close, the safety sensors or force settings could be the real problem. See: opener repair near Braintree.
